8 Ways to Water Your Relationship Garden - TWR Podcast #89

Relationships are a lot like gardens - they require consistent care and attention in order to thrive. We often admire beautiful gardens all while being ignorant or oblivious to the work that it took to create such a garden. Relationships are quite similar, aren't they? Just like that beautiful garden, it’s easy to see the beauty in someone else’s relationship and to want that thing for ourselve...

The fact that I'm here tuning in to this podcast, which is very informative and helpful, is a step forward. Be strong for anyone who is hurting, love yourself, and stay positive through it all. There's a reason why we ended up where we are, and usually there's something better waiting at the end. 🙏🏽❤️

This is SO TRUE’! Before I left my marriage, I did cognitive behavioral therapy when I learned about core values and behaviors. I worked for a year and it was the best thing I’ve done bc it helped me see my value as a secure functioning individual. It is very obvious why we needed to follow through with divorce. He didn’t want to have any accountability for his lack of communication, lack of self awareness and no understanding of his values and being committed to that.i also practiced mindfulness therapy which was the key to my happiness and wellbeing.

What if you have a business with your ex-husband and 8 years after divorce, it occurs to you that without physical detachment, it seems not possible to completely heal. There is residual pain. That hit me hard. What would you guys do? Let go of the business and start over? Deal with it, bc it’s the smart thing to do?

I am 70 and after 25 years of selfish bad behaviors, no intimacy, no respect I said enough. It’s been difficult because it’s years of loss of identity and being part of a two. I was elated at the freedom and I still will never go back to that, I don’t want to be a slave to any man again. The loneliness though can get to me, it’s difficult to go to places alone and not that safe at night or long trips. I made my choice though so I went back to working with young reps and I am determined to live on and move forward

What if it ended because of circumstances on both sides that made it challenging and both parties still love eachother? I’ve detoxed for a little while now and nowhere near better. A bit of backstory: my ex partner had some traumatic stuff happen to her so she returned to her family in her home country for a while. I was super supportive but after a few weeks/month I got pretty full on with wanting her to tell me when she was going to be back (honestly I just wanted her to come back). She had told me the end of June but after the she didn’t feel she had processed what she needed to enough yet. I told her it was hurting me being long distance and not knowing when she was coming back and made a bit of a deal about it and she chose to break it off but told me she loved me still and that she could see that still being together considering the situation was hurting me. She still talks to my mum and family quite regularly (texts every day or so and sometimes calls) and I still love her - it was a very serious relationship (her parents had already got us wedding rings, although I fked up not proposing because I wanted the right “moment”). I’m not sure how to fix this - I’ve messaged her to check in a few times and she’ll reply but does so in a way that I know she doesn’t want to keep talking. Should I just move on? I want to marry this girl and will fight for her back, but don’t want to push her away in the process. Wisdom appreciated.

30 days???? That didnt even help one little bit!!! Its been 90 days now and its not any better! Now I'm hearing it could take years! I can't handle that crap. This is brutal. This guy wants to be in contact with me as a friend which we were for 4 years. Then I fell for him and told him and he still only wanted to be friends and keep calling me and I told him it was too painful and he said it's ok to suffer and carry our crosses so I did and got suicidal. Then he went to the Philippines and got some older Filipino to get engaged to him. Ge comes back and said he can't drive me to Church anymore so thats when I wouldn't take his calls anymore but I still love him. And he said we can still talk after he's married. Sgould I call him? Im too scared to do that. He might go live in the Philippines if she can't get a Visa to come here. I almost emailed him the other day after crying over but thank God I didn't. Anybody see the movie The Notebook? That reminds me of the hell Im going through. Its agonizing and like veing sent to hell. But this ain't going to beat me. No way.

I didn't know it but what I thought were boundaries are walls. I have a very sweet husband. Five years. Great guy. However, hearing the same words again, why is this making you angry? Why are u snapping at me? You're being defensive, you're not listening, you're making associations to your past, etc. it is beginning to ruin this relationship. I've had too many. I decided to figure out how to not be defensive and found your video. It's made me realize that I am detaching emotionally and building walls and I am going to try to put this into practice. Thanks.

I suggested a joint counselling as an option as we both said we both have things to out right . Whether this happens I do not know . I could do with talking to you but I see this presentation is year old so whether you are still around i do not know . Can you help me ? I am in uk . I am 65 .

I guess we’re all on day 2 of the breakup… I think mine hurts the most because he was a walking green flag and I was healing & kind of broken so I think he eventually started to feel that. He went from wanting to marry me to feeling unsure & the rejection I think hurts the most. Replaying all of the perfect memories and sweetness from him just breaks my heart to pieces… I decided to break my rule & move in with him even though I wanted to wait until marriage- so moving out was a tear fest once we merged. Never again will I do that.
